Part 3 · Walk through the trades

10The breakout that reverses

A whipsaw is part of the plan, not a failure of it.

The breakout that reverses.

1Price reaches the buy trigger at 1.1218.
2It then falls through 1.1172; the long loses its planned 46 pips before costs.
3Linked cancellation means no fresh short opens at 1.1172.

Hypothetical illustration, not real market data.

Price reaches the buy trigger at 1.1218, then falls through 1.1172; the long loses its planned 46 pips before costs. Linked cancellation means falling to 1.1172 closes the long and must not open a fresh short.

Without reliable cancellation, both entries can trigger.

Practical response

Check order status, not just the chart.
If the platform cannot enforce the intended exposure, stop the test.
Never solve a platform problem by widening the stop or adding orders.

Honest note

A loss taken within the rules is evidence for your review, not a reason to change them.

Key takeaway

One pattern, one position, one planned loss at most.

Try it

On your demo platform, find where the open order list is shown and check it after every fill.
